Furnace Operator
ABOUT THE COMPANY
ZEME Eco Fuels and Alloys Ltd has established a state-of-the-art facility for recycled aluminium processing, producing aluminium alloys in the form of ingots. Zeme uses energy-efficient induction furnaces, which allow it to address niche clients and market segments. The Company’s eco-friendly production facility, the first of its kind in Cyprus, is located in the Ypsonas Industrial Area in Limassol, Cyprus.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
ZEME is seeking an experienced Furnace Operator to enhance the operational efficiency and sustainability of our aluminum recycling plant. The role of the Furnace operator is to perform tasks related to scrap charging, preparing the scrap charging areas, casting, preparing the casting area for production, beginning and maintaining the tilting and pouring, assisting in the collecting of grab samples, and aiding other departments as needed. Take part in the supervision and incoming scrap, offloading and well as examine incoming shipments with appropriate methods, rejects damaged or incorrect items, records shortages, and communicates with Management about damages and shortages or any irregularities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The specific duties as Furnace Operator will include:
- Ensure proper segregation of scrap before loading into furnace and proper heat identification/power distribution released into furnace.
- Engage in removing slag and Dross from furnace launders, tundish’s and ingots.
- Operate closely and control the melting cycle according to standard melt practices and procedures.
- Communicate with team to ensure all team members are aware of new issues and/or processes
- Take part in conducting preventive and general maintenance on furnace hardware including moulds, conveyor casting machine, launders, hydraulics, motors, and other support systems
- Must be flexible with work schedule and be available for overtime and weekends
- Contribute to continuous improvement, and problem solving by following work instructions, making scheduled quality checks and utilizing tools, equipment and knowledge in an efficient manner
- Loading scrap material into the furnace assisted by general workers.
- Perform general factory activities / duties as required by management
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors
- Keep work area in a clean, orderly, and safe working condition and follow all safety rules
- Work from verbal and written instructions to perform tasks, or carry out instructions handed over by senior management.
- Clean inside of furnace, patch cracks if necessary and perform other repair tasks for both furnace and launder system prior to next run.
- May be required to carry out tasks not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this position in support of department objectives and to develop one’s skills
- Adhere to all EH & S guidelines, including wearing of required personal protective equipment including a respirator & mask
- Engage in the synchronization of furnace tilt and casting machine adopting correct rate of pour and proper filling of moulds.
- Regularly evaluated production processes and equipment to find opportunities for improvement; while completing housekeeping and maintenance duties in the production area.
- Help in monitoring and observing water and melt temperature gauges or metal colour and fluidity and adjust power or controls to maintain required temperatures.
- Responsible for training other employees (assistant furnace operator) on furnace safety, operations, and procedures.
- Set up operated tools and equipment for safe charging in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
- Recognize, detect and identify irregularities in machine operations and properly respond to these occurrences according to the severity of occurrence.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Minimum
Professional Accreditation in Electrical and / or Mechanical Engineering
5 years’ experience in a similar role
Very good proficiency in English
Desirable
University degree in Engineering
REMUNERATION PACKAGE
- Basic gross salary €22,000-€26,000 per annum, based on qualifications and experience.
- 21 days annual leave, plus the usual bank/public holidays in the Republic of Cyprus.
